The project was funded under the European Union’s FP6-GLOBAL programme. FP6-GLOBAL is a research programme that addresses major international issues, such as the Millennium Development Goals and global environmental change.

Funding for the AQUATEST PREPARATORY PROJECT ran for 18 months, starting from July 2006 and finishing in December 2007.
